Our Big Build

Since moving into Brookleigh in 1975 and purchasing it in 1984, we have continually transformed our space to better meet the needs of those we serve. After thoughtful consultations, we are excited to announce our vision for a new purpose-built Mencap Centre that will elevate our commitment to service. We are also taking bold steps to create accessible residential accommodation on-site to address local needs.

We currently support 61 individuals with learning disabilities through our commissioned services, with more individuals on our waiting list to join. We also offer support to a wider group through our enriching activities and flexible drop-in sessions. We provide support to a wide age group, supporting children and young people aged 5 and upwards, and then our adult services reflecting our deep commitment to inclusivity. This support provides a much-needed respite break to parents and carers.

Our day care program, available five days a week, highlights our dedication to person-centered care and life skills development. We promote health and wellbeing and cultivate friendships through a variety of engaging activities.

We also provide one-to-one support at home through our Domiciliary Care service and offer Flexible services to adults and children providing 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 support to those needing support to access the community. Our evening activities, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, foster social connections and creativity, combating isolation head-on.

We now aim to create a fully accessible and sustainable build that is designed for the future, ensuring our organisation can thrive for years to come. This project will not only meet the needs of our community today but will also provide long-term support for our initiatives, fostering an inclusive environment for all.

To further our vision, we are launching “Our Big Build” fundraising campaign, aiming to raise £1.2 million for our new Centre and £2.3 million for residential accommodation. With your support, we can create a brighter future for our community. This initiative will also incorporate grant applications along with our own fundraising through the Mencap Charity shop, sponsored activities and various events.

We are reaching out for support for our impactful build project, which aims to create a vibrant space for our community through the ‘Our Big Build’ Appeal. Any contributions, whether through resources, funding, or services, would make a significant difference to our efforts. Together, we can bring this vision to life and foster an inclusive environment that benefits everyone.
