Over the last couple of years we have been moving to more digital ways of working, to make things easier for our employees, more engaging for our service users, and safer for data storage. Here are some of the things we have put in place:
Let’s Get Digital
Let’s Get Digital was a funded project from National Mencap which aims to develop the digital skills of adults with a learning disability and those who work with and support them.
We joined the project on January 21 and we trained our team on how to use laptops and tablets to connect with our service users remotely. Social isolation has been a real concern during the pandemic and this service helped us continue to support our community when people couldn’t come into our building.
Our day services are back in operation now and we have seen a drop in the attendance of our online sessions, so we are now focused more on supporting individuals to utilise the tablets that were given to them, funded by this project (20 tablets). We are supporting people to keep in touch with friends, take part in activities, listen to music and enhance their life skills through the use of tablets.
We have also received further funding from the Let’s Get Digital project, which we have utilised to purchase an interactive plasma screen. We are seeing great engagement from service users individually and as groups and have received great feedback.
The Let’s Get Digital ‘official project’ ends on March 22 but we are now set up to continue with digital activities as part of our ongoing services.
Person Centred Software Implementation
We have recently implemented our person-centred software which allows recording all notes digitally via an app. This will not only give us the ability for the team to record notes on the move, but we will also be able to access reporting to allow us to see where we are doing well and where we need to focus for improvements.
