Jan has been the education representative since 2017.

Jan has taught children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities for over 25 years and has been an Ofsted inspector for Early Years. For more than 10 years she was the outreach co-ordinator for the local authority’s Severe and Complex Learning Difficulties Support Service and the NY Communication Aid Partnership. These roles involved supporting pupils and training staff in mainstream schools.

Jan retired in 2021 from the post of Deputy Headteacher of Springhead School, an all-age special school for children and young people with severe, profound, and multiple or complex learning difficulties and disabilities. She moved to Cambridgeshire, to live closer to her daughter and taught for one year in a special school in Ely before fully retiring in 2024. She keeps updated with Scarborough and District MENCAP developments through online meetings and regular visits to the area.

Jan has an interest in current affairs, DIY, crafts, gardening and in her spare time plays indoor and lawn bowls and is a Level 2 coach. She has three children and seven grandchildren.
